Windows 11 25H2 Rumors – What we Know So Far

When Windows released its latest update for Windows 11, in the form of Windows 11 24H2, it’s safe to say that the update received fairly mixed reviews. While the update had some pretty nifty fixtures, it also had more than its fair share of bugs and glitches, some of which Microsoft is still trying to iron out now.

Fast forward six months or so, and the tech world is once again buzzing at the prospect of a Windows 11 2025 update, in the form of Windows 11 version 25H2. Recently, excitement has grown as more and more rumors have started to appear regarding Windows’ latest upcoming update.

So, do we have a Windows 25H2 release date, what features can we potentially expect, and can we expect to hear any more about it in May at the annual Microsoft Build 2025 convention in Seattle? Here are several Windows 11 version 25H2 rumors.

25H2 Is Likely to be a Small Update

Again, everything we “know” about the latest upcoming Windows 11 update is not yet confirmed and should be taken with a very liberal pinch of salt at this stage.

Quand Windows 11 24H2 dropped back in October of 2024, that was considered a pretty big update, which featured some pretty big changes and unique features. Reviews were mixed, and the update certainly wasn’t without its issues.

Microsoft will likely be hesitant about rushing into another large-scale update, and many industry insiders and experts anticipate 24H2’s successor to be more of a toned down, smaller update with fewer features. It will likely focus on the more prominent attributes, like Windows 11 Copilot.

Whereas Windows 11 23H2 was toned down and subdued, 24H2 was brash and in your face. Microsoft is reportedly looking to adopt a soft, soft approach to their next update, so expect a similar style and feel to 23H2, rather than the polarizing 24H2 we saw last October.

Microsoft Implementing ‘Behind-the-Scenes Platform Changes’

One of the primary reasons why rumors of a new Windows 11 2025 update have picked up in recent weeks is because in a post on their blog, Microsoft announced that the Windows 11 Dev Channel would be progressing ahead to ‘26200 series builds’.

Now, these are based upon the 24H2 update, but what proved especially interesting was the fact that Microsoft spoke about how it would be getting ‘behind-the-scenes platform changes’ which would cause it to depart from the original Beta Channel builds.

Many industry insiders and tech enthusiasts interpreted this blog post as Microsoft gradually beginning work on the 25H2 update.

Windows 11 Version 25H2 Is Not Confirmed

While we’re supposed to be talking about Windows 11 25H2 rumors, what we have here for you is a cold, hard, fact, which is that Windows 11 25H2 has not yet been officially confirmed.

While many would consider it to be the worst-kept secret in the tech landscape at the moment, Microsoft has not yet officially confirmed that the next update for Windows 11 will succeed 24H2, or that it will be known as 25H2.

Based upon past experience, however, and what we have heard on the grapevine, 25H2 is almost certainly the next update. Furthermore, we could see an official confirmation at the Microsoft Build 2025 convention in Seattle, in May.

Windows 11 Version 25H2 Could Release in the Fall

Despite the fact that the update itself hasn’t yet been officially confirmed, it’s almost certain to happen and will likely be confirmed next month, if not before. So, when could we expect a Windows 11 25H2 release date?

Giving an exact release date for an update that has not yet been confirmed, and so, in theory, does not yet exist, is not easy. In fact, it’s impossible because nobody knows for certain. If we assume, however, that 25H2 is indeed in development and will be confirmed imminently, when can we expect a possible release?

Based on past experience and previous update release dates, the latest Windows 11 update could be released in early Fall, likely around late September into October. It will continue to roll out through the rest of the year, into 2026.

Another piece of info that we find especially pertinent is the fact that October will see support for Windows 10 ceasing altogether. This would allow Microsoft to focus all of its attention on providing support for Windows 11 instead.

Expect Fewer Bugs

Windows 11 24H2 had more bugs than the jungle, and more glitches than The Matrix. This caused users and tech support alike a number of headaches that Microsoft won’t want to repeat anytime soon.

As a result of this, because 25H2 will likely provide fewer features and really be scaled down, it’s likely that that particular update will provide far fewer bugs. Of course, we can’t say for certain, and only time will tell.
